Post – Migration Steps for Project Workspaces Migrated to Project Server 2010

In my last post “Project Server 2007 Data Migration to Project Server 2010″ I mentioned about full migration of Project Server 2007 Data with workspaces which includes 5 Db’s Published, Draft, Archiving, Reporting and Content DB to Project Server 2010.

However for some reason migrated workspaces were not able to sync with Project Server 2010 completely, I was not able to add new issues, risk, document from workspaces and the most important was not able to link them to project tasks.

In this post I am going to share with you the post migration steps for Project Workspace Migration.

Below are the steps and screen dumps for the same:

  1. Login to Project Server 2010 PWA with Admin user Permissions, Under Quick Launch menu Click Server Settings.
  2. As you can see there are no workspaces against the project names. However I am able to visit project workspace through Project Center by selecting a project from the grid and click project site button from the ribbon. However for some reasons the URLs are not shown under project sites. Lets perform below steps to complete the sync.
  3. Under Server Settings>> Operational Policies, Click Bulk Update Project Sites link.
  4. Under Bulk Update Project Sites page; Run this tool after migrating content database containing project sites.
    1. Previous Site Path, Under Site URL: Type the old instance name as Project Server 2007; in my case I used “Litware”.
    2. New Site Path, Site URL: Type the new instance name of Project Server 2010; in my case I used “Litware”.
    3. Select the both check boxes against Update Content Types and Project Site Permissions, as shown below
    4. Click Update button.
  5. Once completed it return with new web application details.
  6. To confirm the project workspaces are configured & sync with Project Server 2010 projects. Click under Under Server Settings>> Operational Policies> Click Project Sites link. As per below screen you can see all the sites are configured and shown against each project.
  7. Click on one of the project sites to view & edit data.

At this stage I am able to configure and sync project workspaces with Project Server 2010 Projects completely, but when performing further testing on the same I figure out it’s not done yet.

I was not able to use the “Link Items” against default lists “Issues, Risks & Document” also the visuals the look and feel of the workspaces were still the same as of WSS v3. The ribbon of SharePoint was missing and other features as well. And that gave me content for my next post.

How to Upgrade Visual’s (look and feel) of Migrated Project Server 2007 Project Workspaces to SharePoint 2010 User Interface.

Thank you very much! This was helpful. But I still have an issue though…I am migrating from a differently named PWA to another. For example ‘Litware’ to ‘DevPWA’. The bulk update feature doesn’t resolve the name from Litware to DevPWA.

PS2007 had a relinking tool which worked like a charm, but I haven’t seen anything for PS2010 yet…

Thanks.. this is helpful. We are also experiencing same issue with Issue & Risks. When we click New button on issue & risk list it throws an error message.

Any solution you found so far ??
